And am I the only one that made Wookie noises to myself throughout reading Chewbacca's blog?

re: Brown

IMHO, Brown (be he a bag of shit or not) is exercising the last resort available to him....Nasty or noble, I can appreciate natural survival instincts. I won't deny that his handling of the Katrina situation was less than admirable, but in a weird way I see a sort of moral lesson being played out here...a Bush appointee inevitably fired for incompentence, trying to get his own back through blackmail...I am greedily anticipating more of this in the future.

And...Bill-
I just watched a show on CMT called "Trick My Truck." We saw the "pilot" truck for the show this summer at Walcott. It's pretty awesome...basically every ridiculous thing we could have wanted to do thru IPD put into an hour of good ol' Country Music Television.
It's like "monster garage" and "pimp my ride" put together, only without the engineers and designers, and with more junkyard theatrics.

from Salon.com:

Is Brownie still doing a "heck of a job"?

It's not blackmail, exactly, but former FEMA Director Michael Brown sure seems to be putting the screws to the White House that praised him, then dumped him, for his role in the Hurricane Katrina fiasco.

As Congress complains about White House stonewalling on Katrina, Brown's lawyer has written a letter to White House counsel Harriet Miers in which he says this his client is prepared to go public with "all facts" about the federal government's response to the hurricane unless he receives "specific direction otherwise from the president, including an assurance the president will provide a legal defense to Mr. Brown if he refuses to testify as to these matters."

Brown is set to testify before the Senate Friday, and his lawyer tells the Associated Press that he's stuck "between a rock and a hard place" -- the rock being the administration's desire to keep Katrina matters secret, the hard place being Congress' authority to conduct oversight and learn the truth.

"Mr. Brown is going to testify before Congress," says attorney Andrew Lester. "If he receives no guidance to the contrary, we'll do as any citizen should do -- and that is to answer all questions fully, completely and accurately."

Lester's letter asked the White House for a response by Wednesday afternoon. So far, he says, he hasn't gotten one.

MySpace - The Movie

Myspacemovie David Lehre has created 'My Space - The Movie' - a smart short film that satirises the MySpace experience including 'The Angles' - when people don't put straight on photos of themselves.

Hmmm, that kid with the cow looks like a corporate flunky to me. ;-) Kidding.

Great post, Eli. Make sure you save some cool stuff for the blog entries!

I just logged into my Yahoo mail account, see Partyfile #1. Check out the banner ad to the right. There was actually an animated photo of a rooster that paraded across the browser window, in front of the webpage, and disappeared into the ad.

So now, I officially no longer have any hope for ethanol production.

Corrupt old-fashioned car companies and factory farming. Two good things that go better together. Imagine, SUVs running on American agricultural trade subsidies. Taxpayers helping to save the planet from diminished corporate profits. And of course delightful reductions of greenhouse gases and oil consumption, only at the tailpipe without any overall efficiency.

Oh well, my dreams of an post-oil agrarian, cardon-dioxide free, revolution are diminshihed but not destroyed. I will just treasure this image and hold on to the hope:

Kids and their cows. It gives me hope for the future.

P.S. Check out the GM commercial and video podcast for a delightful glimpse at how to use a tasty vegetable to market an insidious corporate scheme.

P.P.S. I still have a small interest in cellulosic ethanol but the whole idea of powering cars on food is a little hare-brained.
