see you, eli, keep partymoding from new york!

also, ARGH can anyone make an .mp4 file into a .mov file for me? I can't seem to do it.

barring that, ripping a 30 minute DVD into .mov format would work too.

anyone?

A serious contender for best line ever:

(suprisingly enough) from a Pitchforkmedia.com review of The Stills-The Logic Will Break Your Heart
The Stills are a complicated case, though, inspiring equal amounts of pleasure and horror, like that dream in which everyone has mozzarella genitals.

Everyone touts the web as having potential to bring freedom to China, but that's not how it is being used now.

From the NYTimes:
On any of China's leading search engines, enter sensitive political terms like "Tiananmen Square" or "Falun Gong," and the computer is likely to crash or simply offer a list of censored Web sites. But terms like "hot sex" or "illegal drugs" take users to dozens of links to Web sites allowing them to download sex videos, gain entry to online sports gambling dens or even make purchases of heroin.

Of course freedom is illegal, but so is gambling, but the Chinese govt. is more adept at stamping out freedom sites. I think that when criminals stand to profit, as they do from the gambling sites, they are probably just more persistent than those who are trying to call for freedom. But what does that tell us about human nature?

Ali Farka Toure died today. One of the greatest musicians of our age, in my opinion. Here's a fascinating bio.
