party shout

Someone at work sent out a link to this, and apparently it's all over the 'burgh airwaves... I just heard it mentioned on the radio a minute ago. Funny Steelers adaptation of the Muppet Show's song, "Manha-manha...". Recorded as a joke by local act Mr. Devious, who plays at the BBT a lot.

I wonder though, if ford credit is so good at renting cars, why couldn't they just rent somebody eles' cars. was that the original point?

I bet when you come down to it though, it is all just an elaborate shell game, ford credit is a seperate entity so that ford motors can post loses which presumably nets them some tax breaks, etc.

article about citizen publishing. really long, can someone read some of it and summarize for me? eli, looking at you...

tumbleloggin' without the jargon... from someone who has aparently never heard the jargon.

For future anthropologists, if this hasn't become blatently clear to you by now: The noise is the amplified sexual and social tension of millions of geeks who don't get out enough, and redirect their energy into classifying and reclassifying everything they make and do with their friends online, almost as sport. The chunk of our brains that evolved for categorizing and recording the activities of our fellow humans in our growing tribes isn't used to its full capacity when its not flooded with celebrity weddings, he-said-she-was-like bickerings, and intricate interpersonal relationships. So we end up focusing our minds on other, more abstract things.

hey eli, you bring up a good point about the car arm of ford. however, ford credit is probably primarily making its money off of auto loans (which would necessitate having the cars... damn you, 0% APR for 12 months!!).

But it is also keeping people in jobs. Same as New Jersey, where its mandatory for gas stations to be full service. Repealing the law might make for bigger corporate profits, but would leave a stain for the blue collars. (And that eloquent writing is what got me this job in the first place).

"Ford has become a finance company that also happens to make cars, albeit at a loss of hundreds of dollars per vehicle.

In essence, there is the automotive leg and the finance leg, and thanks to these two parts the company's profit and loss account is largely balanced.

Ford's finance unit, Ford Credit, made net profits of $2.5bn during 2005, more than cancelling out the losses made by its North American automotive unit.

Which begs the question: if Ford Credit is the real reason why the company is still able to stand on its own two feet, why bother make any cars at all?"
