I bet when you come down to it though, it is all just an elaborate shell game, ford credit is a seperate entity so that ford motors can post loses which presumably nets them some tax breaks, etc.

The chunk of our brains that evolved for categorizing and recording the activities of our fellow humans in our growing tribes isn't used to its full capacity when its not flooded with celebrity weddings, he-said-she-was-like bickerings, and intricate interpersonal relationships. So we end up focusing our minds on other, more abstract things.

hey eli, you bring up a good point about the car arm of ford. however, ford credit is probably primarily making its money off of auto loans (which would necessitate having the cars... damn you, 0% APR for 12 months!!).
But it is also keeping people in jobs. Same as New Jersey, where its mandatory for gas stations to be full service. Repealing the law might make for bigger corporate profits, but would leave a stain for the blue collars. (And that eloquent writing is what got me this job in the first place).
