party shout

hey, have any of you guys ever lost your temper at work and starting shouting at someone?

i am afraid my maddog-ness came out last friday and i started yelling at a project manager on the phone while everyone around me could hear. including my bosses.

wow.

not yet. I am a uniter, not a divider. Also just passive aggressive, not active aggressive. mayhaps cut back on the coffee?

buy everyone cupcakes?

just call the project manager and apologize for your tone. say you're not sorry about what you said, just how you said it, and yadda yadda. even though your other bosses may not have been super happy about the yelling, i doubt that they'd get involved in the situation unless the project manager comes to ask them for help/mediation.

slot 0 isn't the mp3 of you yelling, is it?

this has happened to me once with a third party vendor. however, my definition of 'yelling' is my boss's definition of asking nicely - my boss is 112398 times the meanie of anyone else. so he actually gave me a pat on the back for that, the one time I really lost my temper.

has anyone mentioned the incident to you? I think maybe you could apologize to the PM, and otherwise don't worry about it. i guess also if you have a chill/relaxed relationship with your boss (IMing during the day, joking around etc) it wouldn't hurt to feel around that situation with them. it depends on what the situation is - a lot of jobs fully expect 'creatives' to be a little crazy, and even though that is a false stereotype, you can use it to your advantage as a get out of jail free card...as long as it's played infrequently :)

thanks guys.
yea my bosses want to sit down with me later today to talk about it. im afraid i will get all emotional about it. but they tell me i am "not in the doghouse."

I just lost my cool and was too stressed to deal with a pm accusing me of delaying an project. Shouldn't have had happened. I haven't apologized to the pm, because she was using quite a tone herself. But we have exchanged a couple of "friendly" emails.

hehehe. i like "friendly" in quotes.

Thanks for all the advice and concern.

Ya it went well. My bosses are really supportive, and they know i wouldn't have gotten so upset if it weren't for a good reason.

I dont know if it was for a good reason really... more just on the verge of burnout... but i guess thats also a form of a good reason. heh.

anyways its all good.

very glad it went well agata :)
and yeah, make sure if you're generally unhappy you do something about it. you have the skillz to pay the billz anywhere, specifically someplace not owned by rupert :)

I have had a couple of freak-out sessions on people who were technically my bosses and its never really a big deal. Also, my take is that you should only address any incidents with people if they are getting in the way of your productivity. Otherwise, everyone should be able to move on with professionalism. Anyways, hope everything turned out ok.
