party shout

Ice cream truck wars.

Went to see the neighborhood where my dads parent first lived when they came to this country. My sister had cornrows done at a west african beauty salon. This is in the south bronx, walking distance from the place where grandmaster flash started throwing parties. Saw some kids popping to music coming out of a car driving by.

I definitely heard the Mister Softee jingle while eating lunch at my parents' house on Sunday, and was stunned to hear it this early in the season. Apparently, that jingle was in danger of being silenced by the mayor a couple of years back.

It sounds like an interesting visit. Why did she decide to go?

eli.pousson posted 7 months ago

to get cornrows? I guess because she likes them? She has her hair braided about once a year or so.

No, I was thinking why did she decide to visit your grandparent's old place in the Bronx.

eli.pousson posted 7 months ago

oh, it was our great grandparents place, and it was my dad that wanted to go see it. The house was not there anymore though. It was nice to see the neighborhood.

Bernhard Stroh's original beer selling operation consisted of a basement brewing operation and was then sold door-to-door in a wheelbarrow.
