carter may have been a good man with good governance skills, and good ideas, but he was buffeted by history. i fear obama might be the same. particularly, since america just can't do whatever it wants in this new world (as it may have felt after vietnam), he has less control, but will still shoulder the blame.

One of my worries is that McCain and his surrogates have been working hard to link Obama to Carter, specifically his recent meetings with Hamas representatives.

Just google the two and you can get a sense of that discussion. Unfortunately, none of this analysis appears to be very sophisticated or thoughtful.
