on the political front, here's a blog article my dad wrote about Iran and Saudi Arabia. Pretty intense reading, but interesting:

and for a chaser: i did a lecture on sound logos today, and i found this one, which must be the greatest sound logo of all time.

Speaking of sound design, the effects added to this video are most comical:

I'll have to go through your Dad's article when I have more time. The Leveretts have been making their share of enemies lately... I'm interested in your Dad's take.

That iPad video makes me feel a bit better about not really wanting one.

Yann, that intro video is awesome.

Eli, do you know who else doesn't want an iPad? Cheney.

onny posted 4 months ago

can we get a signup sheet please.

I am buying one for myself and one for my mom. I am probably going to wait until the 3g comes out before doing that tho.

JonBro posted 4 months ago

If it had a forward-facing camera, I'd definitely get one for my mom. I still might, I'm not sure.

This is what she wants to do:
1) Web surfing
2) Email
3) Skype video-chatting with my grandfather (camera!!!!)
4) Maybe showing off pictures of my little brother to friends
5) Not live in fear that she will get shouted at for "messing up" the family computer

She has no need for 3G. She also lives in paranoid fear of "the Internet" and people who will steal her identity or... I dunno.

The worst thing that will (not "can," but "will") happen is my brother installing a bunch of games on it introducing a number of confusing icons onto the screen.

onny posted 4 months ago

buy your brother one too to mitigate that issue. alternately wait several years until that problem moves away from your mom.

my rational for the 3g is that my mom is totally confused by routers.

JonBro posted 4 months ago

I don't think my mom will take hers out of the house. I guess if it turns out that she really wants to, I'll get her the 3G one, and take the WiFi one myself. I don't want 3G on mine. #TalkingLikeMoneyGrowsOnTrees.
