another interesting vintage music tech thing is the Voder. sounds totally amazing, I have no idea if there are any in existence now.

It's also an early example of the fraught gender issues in electronic music, where women were often the technical experts and the only ones who could actually use the machinery, but the men referred to them condescendingly as "operators" and took all of the credit. This basically continued for many years (notably in the Radiophonic Workshop) until women were totally airbrushed out of the music tech picture altogether.

here's another youtube gem, showing John Cage on a tv gameshow performing a piece involving a bathtub, fish in a piano, rubber ducky, and more.

a fascinating example, together with that Les Paul/Mary Ford video, of how experimental music used to be shown on mass media.

Yann: this is AWESOME stuff, can we use this thread as a repository for music related videos that might inspire "digital music" exhibits?

Yes, yes we can use this thread for that purpose.
A super awesome guy I know is just releasing a new thing called Ototo, which is like a Makey Makey synthesizer:

also cracklebox. perhaps a bit clich├ęd in the music tech world now, but still pretty cool.
